Review: Priest [2011]

12 Bis - Action/horror/Sci-Fi-6 May 2011

The interesting thing only with films vampire these days is try to work on what kind of vampire that rules have been thoughts and your course to get up to govern the world. The vampires of the priest are real horrific monster with fangs and claws which makes a change from usual humans with slightly larger incisors. That said, they exist as slaves to their masters in true vampire human-turned-vampire.

Hyung Min - Woo Korean graphic novel-based priest is set in a world where humans and vampires were at war. Realizing they were losing, humans has invested in the formation of an elite group of warriors who could fight the vampires and turn the battle in their favour. Really interesting since the original comic strip did not vampires but rather fallen angels and demons so why the name of this film does not completely match the content.

The Church decided that after the war is won they need no longer their team of crack of assassins and, therefore, fearing what they could do, they are dissolved and sent to live a normal life with the authorities and society their eviction. (I have the impression that it was at least partly attempting to the parallel modern war veterans, but it was a theme that was briefly passed above). When the priest (Paul Bettany) discovers his family have been attacked by vampires and niece (Lily Collins) made, it goes back on the floor of the Church and teams with his friend little nieces Hicks (Cam Gigandet), the local sheriff to get her back.

Then follows some fighting, CGI and special effects (which, in its whole, are good) and try a history of the situation of the mode. I just felt that this film have is not with the rather disappointing interim, parties "scary" do not let my heart race not to mention make me jump out of my seat and I started to lose interest in Midway to through-never a good sign. Watch the trailer and save a trip to the cinema and a few quid.

Also the film did not know what direction he going in. By this I mean he amalgamated a western horror theme and action and an attempt to light romance and he threw in a post-apocalyptic world type of Mad Max. Maybe it could work in the graphic novel where you can imagine a Western world cowboy to be God fearing, but he did not simply adapt to the big screen.

Although one couldn't see the version 3D the general consensus is that I made the right choice by opting for the 2D. It is probably to the fact that it was post-converted 3D instead of shooting in 3D and with large parts of the film in the dark (a guess why), will not have the addition of 3D glasses to help your viewing experience.

Finally, you like me may be surprised to find that it is only a rating of 12 bis. If I've ever seen some of these things in this film when I was younger than 12 I step slept weeks but then perhaps the children today are made of harder things!

If I was not the biggest fan of this film and I feel that I will not be the only one. If it wasn't for the tattoo in the shape of cross on his forehead, I would have had trouble distinguishing Bettany of its role in this and the also disappointing Legion. A word that summarizes and this word is garbage.

Rating: 3.9/10.
